SAN FRANCISCO – June 17, 1998 – The Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) today presented its first annual “Marketer-of-the-Year” award, honoring leadership in the use of the Internet as an effective marketing tool, to Intel Corporation. The award was presented at a luncheon ceremony during IAB’s annual meeting held here.
“Intel has shown how marketers can best harness the brand-building and sales-building power of the Internet,” said Rich LeFurgy, IAB Chairman and Senior Vice President Advertising, Buena Vista Internet Group, who presented the award to Intel. “Intel is using the best of what online offers marketers today, as well as experimenting with what’s coming tomorrow.”
Jami Dover, Intel Vice President & Director of Worldwide Marketing, accepted the award on behalf of Intel.
“The IAB Board felt Intel’s overall achievement was extraordinary for its broad and extensive use of the Internet and for its very effective integration of online into the total marketing mix,” LeFurgy added. “Strategically, Intel used most of the different multi-tasking tools of the Internet to implement a combination of brand advertising, relationship marketing, and ecommerce.”
As examples, LeFurgy cited a promotional program for Intel’s Superbowl “whodunnit” that integrated both broadcast and online, as well as a multi-site sponsorship Intel created to reinforce the audio/video capabilities of the Pentium II processor. He also highlighted the Intel Inside” Co-Op Program, which represents 10% of the Intel Inside” marketing funds. This program encourages Web publishers to create “processor-demanding content” by subsidizing its development,” LeFurgy said.
In presenting the Marketer of the Year to Intel, the IAB also presented individual awards to four Intel executives for their contributions to the overall effort. The recipients of individual awards were Jami Dover; Shawn Conly, Interactive Advertising Manager; Claudine Macklin-Ryan, Interactive Marketing Program Manager; and Suzanne Brisedine, Director, Rich Interactive Advertising Programs.
“Intel’s online marketing leadership was truly a team effort with broad corporate support,” LeFurgy said.
