With more than 20 years of privacy law experience and nearly 15 years in advertising technology law, Meredith Halama serves as an authority on online and mobile advertising practices. The firmwide co-chair of the Privacy & Security practice and firmwide chair of the Ad Tech industry group, Meredith counsels clients on the full spectrum of consumer privacy issues, with a particular emphasis on targeted advertising, mobile advertising, data monetization, and related business practices. Meredith’s privacy work spans industries; her clients include major technology platforms, wearable tech providers, brands, publishers, and streaming services as well as advertising technology intermediaries.
Meredith works with clients to develop privacy programs designed to help them comply with consumer privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and other new state laws, section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Act, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA), and marketing laws such as the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act (CAN-SPAM). Through her work, Meredith has developed a deep understanding of the online advertising ecosystem and is valued by clients for her practical and efficient guidance.
In addition to her counseling practice, Meredith represents companies in regulatory investigations before the FTC, state attorneys general, and self-regulatory bodies. She also drafts privacy policies, online terms and conditions, and other consumer-facing disclosures. In addition, Meredith regularly drafts and negotiates commercial agreements related to the collection, use and sharing of user data.
Prior to joining Perkins Coie, Meredith served as deputy general counsel and director of compliance of the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI), a trade association composed of nearly 100 companies engaged in interest-based advertising and related practices. Before joining the NAI, Meredith spent eight years in private practice, where she focused on privacy and communications law.
