As part of the 2019 NewFronts in New York City, IAB is highlighting the decision makers, shakers, and movers having an impact in the digital advertising and media industry. Read about Kieley Taylor, Managing Partner, Global Head of Social at GroupM:
Singing Along
I have been susceptible to ads since I was really young. It drove my family nuts, but I would sing along with any radio jingle as if it were a song.
Playing Advertising
I wanted to work in advertising ever since I was little when I used to make my brother play ‘let’s make a commercial.’
Early Social Media
I majored in advertising but it predated a lot of the social networks as we know them today. I was a member of Facebook when it was only available to college students, which was my way of introduction to the platform.
Making The Leap
I worked at a small independent agency outside of Minneapolis and some days I would do HTML markup and help the developer team, and other days I would do search reporting. I got a job as an assistant search planner at Neo@Ogilvy and that is when I made the leap to New York.
NewFronts Are a Gift
NewFronts fall around my birthday, so I really appreciate the community aspect of it and everyone coming together; whether it be former colleagues, people from the sell side or clients.
A Way Out of the Weeds
We need to have a lot of short-term shareholder value return now, which means that a lot of our plans are very tactical. So we tend to get in the weeds really quickly, especially in digital where we can measure everything. The NewFronts are a nice shift of gaze, where we can look towards the future and understand what the roadmaps look like.
Finding the Macro
I’m always intrigued to figure out what the macro trend is across all of the different roadmaps. In years past it has been about the proliferation of video across more and more screens. There have been themes around brand safety and contextual alignment and I would anticipate data and regulation will be a theme, among others, this year.
A New York Twofer
I am really fortunate to live near Prospect Park so that I can escape to nature. I also find the people watching so interesting there that you don’t have to be glued to your phone. That’s when your ideas really start to have a lot more free rein.
