The California Attorney General’s final CCPA Regulations require businesses to provide “two or more designated methods for submitting requests to opt-out” of sales, including “user-enabled global privacy controls, such as a browser plugin or privacy setting, device setting, or other mechanism.” However, these privacy controls must “clearly” signal that a consumer intends to opt-out of these “sales.” Our panelists explored how browser or device-level privacy settings may play a greater role in signaling a consumer’s opt-out request.

Cash is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E, CIPM) and frequently speaks at industry events where he provides deep insight into regulatory issues and practical approaches to compliance.
Alex joined Tech Lab in early 2020 after 7 years at Xandr (formerly AppNexus) where he lead multiple product and engineering groups to deliver a broad range of successful ad tech products. Alex stood up Xandr’s Privacy product and engineering capability in 2018 and since realized digital privacy is the area of advertising where he can make the most impact to the industry and consumers. Alex believes Tech Lab–with its global reach, technology focus, diverse membership and trade group relationships–is uniquely positioned as a place where he can leave a positive lasting mark on privacy.
Sundeep Kapur advises on regulatory compliance, commercial transactions, and other data initiatives involving complex or emerging technologies. He possesses an in-depth technical and legal understanding of the adtech ecosystem (e.g., connected TV, linear TV, over-the-top media, desktop, mobile) and is a key contributor to the development of industry-wide adtech privacy solutions. He also advises on compliance with self-regulatory regimes developed by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), Network Advertising Initiative (NAI), and Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA).
Dr. Aruna Sharma is the Group VP, Lead Counsel Global Privacy & Tech at Xandr, the AT&T advertising and analytics company. She is also Xandr’s Data Protection Officer. In her current role, Aruna advises Xandr on global privacy, technology, and information security initiatives, and leads Xandr’s global data privacy and governance program.
Previously, Aruna was Assistant General Counsel in the legal department of Turner Broadcasting System, focusing on technology, privacy and information security.
Before joining Turner in the US she worked for Turner’s Europe Middle East Africa office in London and for Germany’s biggest television cable provider KDG, now Vodafone.
Farah Zaman is Chief Privacy Officer at Meredith Corporation, the leading multi-platform media company reaching more than 185 million consumers each month. Farah is the first person to assume this role and is responsible for leading Meredith’s privacy compliance, education, and protection strategy across all its businesses.
Farah has spent her career working with various companies on issues of privacy and data sharing while promoting innovation and efficiency. Previously, she was Senior Global Data Privacy Counsel for Colgate Palmolive where she led the global data privacy program and advised the company’s global legal organization, stakeholders and senior leadership on data privacy matters. Farah also served as Senior Counsel of Privacy for Nielsen. She began her career in government as a post-graduate legal fellow in the New York City Mayor’s Office for International Affairs, and subsequently as an Agency Attorney in the Office of Data Privacy for the New York City Human Resources Administration/ Department of Social Services.
Farah currently serves as a Board Member of the Carnegie Mellon Board of Advisers for the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences and sits on the Leadership Council of The Resolution Project, a 501c(3) non-profit organization. She was previously Chair of the International Women’s Rights Committee of the New York County Women’s Bar Associations.
Farah earned a B.S. in Decision Science and International Relations from Carnegie Mellon University and received a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School.
